Choosing what to tap on
Creating a setup statement
"Even though ___, I deeply and completely accept myself."
By the end of this lessonWrite a setup statement for any target in ten seconds.
The setup statement names the problem and pairs it with self-acceptance: 'Even though I'm dreading Monday's meeting, I deeply and completely accept myself.' You say it three times while tapping the side of the hand.
Both halves matter. The first half is the exposure — you have to say the true, unflattering version. The second half stops the exposure turning into self-attack. If 'I deeply and completely accept myself' feels false, use something you can actually say: 'I'm okay,' or 'I'm willing to be okay with myself.'
Write it in your own language. Polished wording is less effective than accurate wording.
- Even though [specific problem], [self-acceptance].
- Said three times on the side of the hand.
